Reigning king of PE, Alan Greeff, looks likely to assert his power at Fairview on Monday when eight races are contested on the Polytrack.
He might be commanding allegiance as early as the first race with Crystal City, but the royal sword is wielded in earnest in Race 2 when Grazinginthegrass is likely to be doing anything but.
Since transferring from Mike de Kock’s Highveld stable, this four-year-old has been enjoying the coastal air, finishing second, first, second, first. From a No 2 draw at the 1600m start, with Richard Fourie in the irons, there is no reason to believe that this guy won’t continue the hot run and he is the day’s best bet.
In Race 4, it’s regular stable jockey Greg Cheyne who carries the king’s standard aboard Respectable Miss in a wide-open contest, and then again in the fifth on Lollapalooza, who is one of the better bets on the card and a potential Pick 6 banker.
Mesmerizing Moon and Cheyne come off a commending win over this course and distance in the sixth and might pull off a repeat, though there are usurpers in the wings.
A young prince, Whatever Next, looks ready to defend the Greeff dynasty in Race 7, a Pinnacle Stakes in which a few powerful rivals are seeking blood.
In the last, Val Gardena and Que Cosas are the royal courtiers, but they’ll have to lift their games to keep out Zietsmann Oosthuizen’s English Princess and Cliffie Miller’s Capulet’s Heart.
