Trainer Dean Kannemeyer’s KwaZulu-Natal satellite yard is ticking over nicely, with a first-three strike rate of nearly 47%. The stats could get a big boost at Scottsville on Wednesday when assistant Nicolette Roscoe saddles two runners that are among the best bets of the day.
Ideal Act goes in Race 4, a Maiden Plate over 1400m, and looks likely to shake off his maiden status at the fourth time of asking.
The three-year-old by Ideal World has been brought along in the old-fashioned manner, gradual progression, steadily gaining competition experience and improvement with each outing. Last time, he was runner-up over this course and distance and there’s nothing to suggest he won’t go one better.
Kannemeyer’s other runner is Lily Of Orange in the eighth and last race, a Maiden Plate for fillies over a mile. The daughter of Duke of Marmalade has been prepared in the same measured way as her male stablemate since she was transferred to Summerveld from the operation’s Cape Town yard earlier this year.
Two seconds and a third, with notable finishing efforts, indicate the first victory isn’t far away. She tries the Scottsville circuit for the first time but has a very helpful draw of 4 to help her negotiate the right-hand turn.
