Benoni Sassa offices are now fully operational

The new Sassa (South African Social Security Agency) offices, on Elston Avenue, have been open since December 2.

The facility will serve as the main office’s for social grant queries, but the old offices, in New Modder, are still operational, with social workers from the Department of Social Development.

Nkhensani Katane, the Sassa Benoni branch team manager, says the new space allows for a faster application process.

People often complain about the long queues and the constant waiting that takes place at Sassa offices, but Katane says elderly people are often assisted first.

When clients walk into the offices they are first assisted by customer service employees, at the customer care engagement area, where a person’s details are checked within the Sassa network system.

The application is then put into the system, in the screening area, and if there is any missing information the person will be asked to bring the relevant missing documents.

The next process is quality control, where an employee will check whether all due processes were followed when the application was processed.

Supervisors then check the process and whether or not the application has been accepted.

The last process is the customer disengagement, where the applicant is asked to record their voice and provide their fingerprints for security verification.

For parents applying for social grants, the children’s fingerprints would also be processed.
