Suspects arrested with vehicle jammers in Edenvale

After an investigation it was determined that the vehicle used by the suspects, arrested in Edenvale, was hijacked.

Four suspects were arrested in Edenvale with a variety of house break-in implements and jamming equipment.

Cornered by Mamba Security and members of Edenvale CPF the suspects were arrested at the intersection of Main and Homestead roads.

The arrests were made on October 12.

Media liaison officer of the SAPS Rapid Response Services Warrant Officer Grant Giblin said Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) members responded after receiving a call for backup.

The vehicle signal jammers and vehicle computer boxes found by law enforcement after four suspects were arrested in Edenvale.

He said the silver Haval, containing the four suspects was stopped after law enforcement was informed to be on the lookout for a vehicle matching the description.

Giblin said a vehicle fitting the description of the Haval was involved in vehicle thefts and burglaries around the area.

“During investigation at the scene, the Haval’s chassis number was tested. The vehicle was as reported hijacked and linked to a September case,” said Giblin.

He said the suspects were immediately arrested.

“A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of two vehicle signal jammers, numerous vehicle computer boxes and keys as well as a large variety of burglary implements,” said Giblin.

The suspects were detained at Edenvale Police Station.

“All exhibits were handed in and the vehicle was impounded.”

The four suspects arrested in Edenvale contributed to BFS’s successes between October 9 and 13.

During that period nine suspects were arrested by the squad.

In separate instances, three suspects were arrested for possession of drugs in Brakpan, Kaalfontein and Ivory Park.
Giblin said crystal methamphetamine, Mandrax and nyaope were recovered.

He said through further policing in Benoni, a 37-year-old suspect was arrested on October 13 for driving under the influence of alcohol while in Brakpan a 40-year-old was arrested for allegedly stealing wine at a liquor store.

“The suspects will face their charges at local magistrate’s courts,” said Giblin.
