Residents help apprehend robber

The suspect forced the employee to hand over all valuables, before he fled the scene

A man was arrested for business robbery in Yeoville.

The arrests took place on Hunter Street on Monday, August 26.

“The suspect went to a day-care centre pretending to seek information regarding the possible enrolment of his child. He then threatened the employee with a knife and demanded money and cellular phones,” said Constable Thabo Malatji, of the Yeoville SAPS.

He said the suspect forced the employee to hand over all valuables, before he fled the scene.

“The employee’s screams alerted the residents and they ran after the suspect. They managed to apprehend the suspect and called the police,” said Const Malatji.

He said the suspect was arrested and detained at the Yeoville SAPS.

“The suspect is expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court soon, facing charges of business robbery. We thank the members of the community for the sterling work they did in apprehending the suspects and ensuring that those who broke the law were brought to book,” said Const Malatji. @JoburgJourno
