Getrude started her journalism career on an internship at Arena Holdings newspapers. She then worked as a general news reporter at the Sowetan in 2007. She later moved to Bloemfontein and worked as a senior reporter, returning a year later to Joburg, where she has remained and worked at various titles. She joined The Citizen Digital in January 2022. Getrude reports on governance, politics and local government.
