City responds to replacement trolley bins grievance

The City says it has already started with the procurement process for the new stock of 240-litre bins and delivery is expected before the end of October 2021.

I would like to know why we have not been able to get replacement trolley bins from the waste department for weeks?

From what I have heard, it seems that they haven’t decided as to whom to appoint as their next supplier.

While in the meantime, we as residents who have had their bins stolen have to ensure that at collection time our packets are collected and not destroyed by the “pickers” who strew our garbage all over the pavement.

CoE’s response

City’s spokesperson Nhlanhla Cebekhulu told the RECORD that the stock of 240l bin issued to the various depots has been depleted.

“The new contract for the supply and delivery of 240l bins has been awarded during September 2021. And the signing of service level agreements with the appointed service providers was concluded during the third week of September,” he said.

Cebekhulu said the CoE has already started with the procurement process for the new stock of 240l bins and delivery is expected before the end of October 2021.

“In the interim, the department will collect refuse placed in plastic bags from residents whose bins have been stolen until such time the replacement stock is available,” he said.
