Twenty-five motorists caught

Motorists disobeyed rules.

THE Democratic Alliance (DA) welcomes the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department’s (EMPD) achievement in fining 25 motorists who were caught disobeying the rules of the road along McBride Street in Brackenhurst on Tuesday, September 27.

A report from the EMPD stated that 25 motorists were fined up to R2 000 for disregarding the stop sign.

The DA continues to take residents’ complaints seriously and will continue to make sure that action is taken against motorists driving irresponsibly. I have been inundated with complaints about speeding and motorists disregarding the law along this particular road. Therefore it is also welcome that a request was sent through to the Roads Department to see if speed-calming measures in the area could be put in place, since the department has not deemed it necessary yet to implement road-calming measures on this particular road.

The DA will work with the Roads Department towards a long-term solution that does not disrupt the flow of traffic but that also keeps law-abiding motorists and pedestrians safe.

As the EMPD are doing their part, I urge the residents to adhere to the rules of the road and keep other road users in their minds at all times when driving.

Ward 38 councillor, Malcolm Maifala
