Ekurhuleni implement reduction of water supply pressure

The City of Ekurhuleni take steps to conserve water, due to reservoirs running low.

THE City of Ekurhuleni has taken steps to conserve water, due to reservoirs running low.

“Ekurhuleni technicians have been closely monitoring water levels at reservoirs across Ekurhuleni and have noted that water levels at Russel Road reservoir are running low,” says Themba Gadebe, Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality’s spokesperson.

As a precautionary measure water supply pressure will be reduced in efforts to conserve the resource. Consumers in Germiston are also urged to implement water-saving measures as levels in their supplying reservoir have dropped.

The affected areas are: Albermarle; Castleview; Dinwiddie; Lambton and Wadeville.

Residents and businesses are required to use water sparingly and adhere to the prohibition of irrigation activities between 06:00 and 18:00. These include the use of hosepipes, sprinklers and irrigation systems, as well as filling of swimming pools.

“The City of Ekurhuleni will soon announce a water restriction tariff and fines to be imposed on those who contravene the restrictions that are currently in place,” adds Gadebe.
