Register before May 23 to enable you to cast your vote

AN urgent call goes out to all unregistered voters to register before 23 May at their nearest IEC offices, in order to be able to cast their vote on 3 August.

Applicants must take their valid IDs with to register. Registrations can be done during office hours at the IEC offices. Alberton residents can go to the IEC office which is situated on third floor of the Alberton Town Council.

Residents who have applied for new IDs are urged to follow up with the home affairs department. According to councillor Bruna Haipel, Home Affairs has informed them that they have vast numbers of uncollected IDs. If the IDs are not collected in six months, they will be sent back to Pretoria, preventing citizens from obtaining the documents before registration closes.

Disabled and bedridden voters my request a special vote where the IEC will arrange home visits. This can be arranged by sending a family member to collect the relevant form from the IEC offices. The voter may then fill in the document and return to the IEC. They may also contact the councillors in their areas, who will gladly assist them.

For further information, Alberton residents can call these councillors: Bruna Haipel on 082 454 6956, Samantha Nair on 082 921 2856 or Phillip de Lange on 073 657 6078 or any of the following numbers: 082 677 8577, 084 020 7479 or 079 893 8404.
