Things to do this Halloween

If your idea of a good time is dressing up in costumes and scaring people, then we've found a few Halloween.


Looking for something both adults and kids will enjoy. Check these out:

Horrorwood – Halloween Party

Whether entertaining the kids (big and small) or just going out to have fun, Horrorwood might be just up your street. Trick or treating, a house of horror, a performance by Snakebite Jones and Master Mentalist Gilan Gork are all in the line-up for the darkest night of the year. There’s even a costume competition.

When: Thursday, 31 October

Where: Brightwater Commons, Randburg, Johannesburg

Time: 4pm – 9pm

Halloween at Serendipity

Definitely one for the kids. Festivities in a Halloween-bedecked Serendipity include Darin the Magician, breaking the pumpkin piñata with Halloween themed sweets galore and prizes for the most spook-tacular outfits!

 When: 27 October
Where: Serendipity, Rosebank, JHB
Time: 8:30am to 11:30am and from 12pm to 3pm.
Cost: R90
Of course, if you want something more adult orientated the following will probably be more up your street.

2013 SA Horrorfest

From horror movies to bloody novels and ghoulish dress-up parties, Horrorfest embraces all that is scary about Halloween. While most of the events happen in Cape Town there are one or two Johannesburg based events to keep you entertained.

Ghost Story

SA’s first horror theatre show is back to scare and thrill audiences in three special Halloween performances! Jack  and Michelle Bouvier seem like the perfect couple until a series of events force them to confront the ghosts of their past with terrifying and profound consequences.

When: 29 – 31 October

Where: Joburg Theatre

Time: 8pm

Cost: R150 per person

Mystery Ghost Bus Tour

Take a spooky trip through the streets of Johannesburg, Pretoria, Durban, Cape Town and Port Elizabeth with the Mystery Ghost Bus Tours.

Zombie Walk 2013

It’s the year 2013 and you thought you survived the end of the world. Guess again! With old hallows eve creeping up, an undead horde will rise outside the gates of West Park Cemetery. Skulking and stalking their way up into Melville, compelled by the power of “ROCK”. Donations go to Marang House.

Maglite Halloween Night Trail Run

A Halloween night trail run offering a 8,5km and 5km distances. Headlights and pre-entering online are essential. Come dress-up in your best Halloween outfit and stand the chance of winning some great prizes.

Dress up in your craziest outfit and join Wonderboom, Martin Rocka and To Hire a Nurse as they rock the night away.

Halloween Ball

Truth presents Halloween BAll featuring Romanians NTFO, Mihai Popoviciu and Activa (UK). Embrace your alter ego, don your freakiest costume and head to Truth’s blood-curdling Halloween Ball for a night of tricks, treats, twisted decor and killer sounds.

Halloween Dance Party

Come dressed up and get Free Entry. From 8pm-9pm we will be having a Thriller Line Dance group class. At 9pm we have a little performance by our instructors. We can definitely say you will be entertained.  From there it is a night of dancing and socialising! Prizes for Best Dressed up for grabs!
