Why are fruits and vegetables good for weight loss?

There are several reasons as to why including fruits and vegetables in your diet, is good for weight loss. Here are some of them:

High water content

Some fruits have a high water content. This not only leaves you feeling hydrated and refreshed but it may also be lower in calories than some other fruit. Examples of these foods include cucumber, celery and watermelon.

Fabulous fibre

Fruit and vegetables are an excellent source of fibre. Fibre is great for weigh loss as it fills you up quickly thus limiting the chances of overeating and unnecessary snacking.

Nutrients and antioxidants

Fruits and vegetables are loaded with valuable nutrients as well as antioxidants both of which perform different functions in our body and are necessary for its optimum functioning. A well balanced and nutritious meal plan should provide you with nutrients rather than unnecessary calories.

Other benefits

Fruits and vegetables also offer other benefits to weight loss. They can satisfy a sweet craving for far fewer calories than if you ate refined and processed confectionery.

Vegetables may offer a ‘crunch’ sensation and can be a wonderful substitute for unhealthy snacks. Vegetables that offer this ‘crunch’ sensation include celery as well as carrots.

Consult a professional

Always consult a dietician if you require assistance in putting a meal plan together. In addition, you should always check with your doctor before making any drastic changes to your diet, especially if you are under medication or suffer from any medical condition that has an effect on your diet.
