Rwanda’s lovers can teach SA men a thing or two about orgasms

Men from this central African country apparently have this one down pat, and there is an entire documentary that explores this.

There is no saying how many South African men struggle with inducing female orgasms, or don’t even bother to, but in a culture where the big O is “worshipped”, we’re willing to bet the enthusiasm makes Rwandan lovers considerably more competent at it.

From the documentary, Sacred Water (directed by Olivier Jourdain), we learn that Rwandan men (it is not specified if it applies to the whole nation or a specific cultural group) take the sexual pleasure of their women very seriously.

This knowledge is apparently passed down from generation to generation via word of mouth.

The tradition is tied in with other important cultural values. The trailer points out that the female orgasm is regarded as a gift from the gods and feeds the rivers. The goal is to make the woman squirt vaginal juices like a “torrent that erupts when we dare to open the gate”.

The sexual act itself is know as ukunyaza, which literally means ‘to pee’.

Commentary from the women in the film would suggest that they are quite satisfied with being Rwandan.

The best way to approach this documentary, perhaps, is not only to take what is useful and incorporate it into one’s bedroom skills, but to take it as a window into the intricacies of another culture. Moreover, the idea that women’s sexual pleasure should be secondary to a man’s is clearly (and thankfully so) not universal.

The award-winning film came out last year in June.
