Kaizer Chiefs football manager Bobby Motaung confirmed that Amahkosi are hosting a number of international players who are at Naturena for trials.

Amakhosi are looking to strengthen their team before their first game in the New Year against Free State Stars on February 7. The Soweto Giants have been linked with players such as Anthony Laffor from Mamelodi Sundowns since the start of the January transfer window.

Reports suggest the striker is negotiating with the Glamour Boys, as his contract with the Brazilians expires in June.

Motaung has since dismissed the reports, but he confirmed that there were new faces at Amakhosi’s training grounds.

“I have players from Brazil, Ivory Coast, Venezuela. We also have one from Mozambique who arrived on Monday,” Motaung told Lesedi FM’s presenter Chomani Chomani. “We still have a long way to go [for the club to be at its best], so we need soldiers.”

When asked about players’ contracts, Motaung refused to comment and asked to be invited officially to the radio to speak on the matter. Defender Lorenzo Gordinho’s contract is set to end in June, as he is in Denmark on trial with Aalborg, fuelling speculations that he is on his way out of Kaizer Chiefs in the current transfer window.

Aalborg is the second side that Gordinho trained with since the festive break, starting with Fulham, before making his debut in the colours of the Danish side in a friendly over the weekend.
