ANC should initiate disciplinary action against Zuma – Sisulu

Sisulu says the ANC is exercising selective judgment by acting against some of its MPs while failing to take action against the president.

ANC presidential hopeful and Human Settlements Minister Lindiwe Sisulu has told Bloomberg News she believes the governing party should initiate disciplinary action against President Jacob Zuma and his close associates, the Gupta family, over allegations they have looted state coffers.

“The ANC should act decisively on anybody in authority who is suspected or alleged to be doing wrong. The fact that the president is involved shouldn’t make a difference,” she told the news agency on Sunday during an interview in Polokwane.

Sisulu has slammed the ANC’s decision to institute disciplinary action against three party MPs who have openly stated they supported the defeated eighth motion of no confidence in Zuma tabled by the DA earlier this month in parliament.

She has accused the ANC of exercising selective judgment against the MPs, while it has failed to take action against Zuma over numerous scandals that have dogged his time in office since 2009.

According to her, whoever emerges as the victor of the ANC’s leadership race in December when Zuma steps down as party leader will have a tough task of stabilising the organisation, restoring its integrity and rebuilding business confidence that was badly damaged by Zuma’s March 30 decision to fire Pravin Gordhan as finance minister.

“Whoever we put out there as a candidate for the ANC must be the kind of person who will make us win the elections. If the party wins in 2019, it will probably be with a very reduced margin. If we don’t, we would have lost everything we ever worked for,” Sisulu said.
