Cape Town residents exceed daily water target – report

The City continues to look for alternative ways to provide water.

July and August are usually Cape Town’s wettest months but for the city that reportedly continues to struggle to keep its residents’ water usage down, the SA Weather Service has said there is only about a 30 percent chance of rainfall this week.

The Weekend Argus on Sunday reported that despite the City of Cape Town’s efforts to restrict its residents’ water usage, the City said the residents were exceeding the daily collective usage target of 500 million litres a day.

The City has been active on social media to encourage residents to use water sparingly and providing tips on how each person can meet the target of using just 87 litres, or less, of water a day.

The Weekend Argus further reported that the provincial spokesperson, James-Brent Stayn had said the average dam levels for the province were at 26%, and the City continues to look for alternative ways to provide water.
