Lindiwe Sisulu: I never called for Zuma to be arrested

African National Congress presidential hopeful Lindiwe Sisulu on Monday denied reports that she called for President Jacob Zuma to be arrested for corruption.

This follows the launch of her presidential campaign manifesto – themed “It’s a must” – on Saturday at Walter Sisulu Square, Soweto. At the launch, she reportedly proposed that Zuma and others accused of corruption should face disciplinary action.

Sisulu, the human settlements minister, said the disciplinary process would allow those implicated of corruption to “explain themselves”, and if they are found guilty, they should be expelled from the ANC. She also hinted at amnesty being granted for Zuma as an option that would help to avert a split within the ANC.

“At no point did I say that Zuma must be arrested. It is very important that at all times whatever goes out in the media is correct. And at this time of heightened campaigning and tempers flying I think it’s important to that we keep a calm, even hand and correct messaging,” she told SABC News.
