Newtown evictees can return to Prasa-owned building

This after the City of Johannesburg reportedly obtained a court interdict to stop the evictions.

The 65 families who were evicted by the Red Ants from the Newtown building they were living in have been granted permission to return to the building.

This after the City of Johannesburg reportedly obtained a court interdict to stop the evictions, according to a report by EWN.

The building is owned by the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (Prasa).

The City of Johannesburg’s MMC for housing, Mzobanzi Ntuli, reportedly told EWN that the City stepped in as they could not allow people “to go to the street in that way”.

Now alternative accommodation must be made available before the families will be made to move from the Prasa-owned building.
