R100k reward for missing Unicef director Charlotte Nikoi

Nikoi, 50, was last seen by her family walking down Table Mountain in Cape Town on March 21.

The family of United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (Unicef) associate director for human resources Charlotte Nikoi, who went missing two months ago, is offering R100 000 reward for information that will lead to her being found.

Nikoi, her husband, Chris, and a daughter were in Cape Town to celebrate their 22-year anniversary in March.

“On their second day in the city, they wanted to go to Robben Island, however, they didn’t realise they had to book in advance, so they couldn’t get tickets. So at the last minute they decided to go up the Platterklip Gorge Trail on Table Mountain,” said Sarah-Jane Trent of Paul O’Sullivan and Associates, which has been appointed to assist in finding Nikoi.

“At about 1pm that afternoon Charlotte was lagging behind and decided to go back down. She sent an SMS to Chris to say she would wait for them at the bottom,” Trent said.

When Chris and their daughter eventually returned to the start of the trail a few hours later, there was no sign of Charlotte.

Since then, multiple appeals have yielded little information and, said Trent, the investigation had stalled.

“We are convinced the only way this investigation will gain traction, is if someone comes forward with useful information, hence the reward.”

Nikoi’s daughter Carly said in a recording distributed to various media she had returned to Cape Town to connect with the people searching for her mother.

“I want to help put an end this nightmare. I’m so hopeful we will find her, I just hope the photos we have of her are not the only ones we’ll ever have, and the memories we have are not the ones we’ll ever keep,” said Carly.

“I want new photos, and I want new memories of my mom. There were so many things we planned on doing and she was excited to do. I just can’t believe that we won’t get to do them. She has three children who need her back in their lives,” Carly said.
