Sandile married with kids, bail application postponed to June 9

Mantsoe has been accused of the murder of Karabo Mokoena and remains in police custody.

It is understood Mantsoe, 27, has been married for two years and was separated from his wife. They have three children together.

Mantsoe’s court case was postponed to June 9. The media has been barred from broadcasting, tweeting and publishing information from the court case. However, both the state and defence have no objections to the judgment of the bail application being broadcast.

The state is opposing bail and has brought charges that Mantsoe killed Mokoena and destroyed her corpse to conceal evidence. He is facing a schedule 6 murder charge.

He is the main suspect in the murder case of Karabo Mokoena, his girlfriend of seven months. Mokoena’s body was found burnt beyond recognition almost two weeks ago after she was reported missing by family and friends on April 28.

Though her body was found on April 29, Mantsoe was arrested two weeks later. He has denied killing her, stating he found her corspe inside his apartment and proceeded to burn her body in a moment of panic.

In an interview with eNCA’s Checkpoint, friends and family of Mokoena said she was in an abusive relationship. Images of Mokoena’s battered face and legs, bruised eye and swollen forehead were broadcast.

Her mother, Lolo and brother Lebogang said they had continuously advised her to leave Mantsoe as her life was in danger. A close friend showed text messages between the two of them with Mokoena saying she was ’emotionally broken’ and didn’t know what to do with herself after breaking up with Mantsoe.
