Joburg EMS says ambulances were ‘committed’, could not help Mandla

While Baragwanath Hospital was only 4.7km away from the place where actor Mandla Hlatshwayo and his friend Oupa Duma were shot, Johannesburg Emergency Management Services (EMS) reportedly confirmed there were no available ambulances to attend to the pair following the shooting incident.

This is according to a report by TshisaLIVE, and the confirmation from Joburg EMS spokesperson Nana Radebe that the “ambulances in the area were committed” at the time and therefore referred the call to Netcare911 reportedly comes after eyewitnesses said they had waited for an ambulance after they called numerous time.

Netcare911 paramedics arrived at the scene 20 minutes after the call was placed, according to the report.

A patron was further quoted as saying Hlatshwayo was breathing and called for the owner, who is also reported to have held him. The patron was quoted as painting the picture Hlatshwayo taking “his last breath on that cold floor”.
