Man arrested for teen’s murder in Eastern Cape tavern

Ngqamakhwe police have arrested a 23-year-old man for allegedly murdering a 19-year-old man in a local tavern, Eastern Cape police said on Sunday.

It was alleged that the pair were in a tavern at Sihlabeni village, Ngqamakhwe, at about midnight on Saturday, Captain Jackson Manatha said.

“Both men had a misunderstanding that is not known to the police. The suspect is alleged to have drawn his knife and stabbed the 19-year-old on his upper body. The latter was rushed to Butterworth Hospital where he was certified dead on arrival.”

The 23-year-old suspect was arrested and charged with murder. He would appear in the Ngqamakhwe Magistrate’s Court on Monday. The identity of the dead teenager was being withheld until his family members had been informed of his murder, Manatha said.
