Zuma tells ANC’s top six leaders Gordhan will be booted out of Cabinet – report

The president reportedly told the ruling party's national leaders on Monday following a meeting with the SACP.

Gupta-owned news channel ANN7 is reporting that President Jacob Zuma has informed the ANC’s top six leaders he plans to remove Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan from his Cabinet.

Zuma on Monday met with the top six leaders, which included Cyril Ramaphosa‚ Baleka Mbete‚ Gwede Mantashe‚ Jessie Duarte and Zweli Mkhize, in Johannesburg following a tense meeting with the ruling party’s alliance partner, the South African Communist Party (SACP).

Bloomberg earlier on Tuesday reported that, according to three sources with knowledge of the matter, Zuma told the SACP that Gordhan was apparently “blocking him” as a president with the responsibility of leading a government.

Following his arrival back in the country after Zuma put the brakes on National Treasury’s international investor roadshow this week in the UK and US without providing any reasons, Gordhan headed straight to the ANC’s national headquarters in Johannesburg, Luthuli House, where he met with the party’s secretary-general, Gwede Mantashe.
