Mokonyane says Julius Malema wanted money from her

The minister claims the EFF leader hounded her for eight days in a row in December wanting money for service providers that funded him.

Water and Sanitation Minister Nomvula Mokonyane has reportedly launched a scathing attack against EFF leader Julius Malema, accusing him of calling her eight days in a row in December last year asking for money.

According to a DispatchLIVE report, a “hurt” Mokonyane made the claims at an induction workshop of the ANC’s Amathole regional executive committee on Monday at the Osner Hotel in East London, Eastern Cape.

The minister said despite initially opting not to respond to Malema’s allegations that she was romantically involved with chairperson of the Central Energy Fund Luvo Makasi, who was also accused of running the water and sanitation department – Mokonyane said it was in fact Malema who was controlling her.

She said the EFF commander-in-chief called her for eight days in December insisting that certain service providers of her department be paid.

“I picked up his call and guess what? These are the service providers that have been funding Julius and doing work for this government, and [Malema] himself has his own company.”

“All along, everybody was reading about him insulting Nomvula saying there is a Luvo who is running Nomvula because he sleeps with her …”

“I never responded, but my time came, and I said in fact Julius is controlling me because from 15 to 23 [December 2016] all he wanted [from me] was money,” Mokonyane was quoted as saying.

In response to the minister’s claims, Malema admitted to calling her but said it was not because he stood to benefit.

“Yes‚ I called her. It’s not even a secret because workers in Giyani had not been paid during December holidays, and they called us. That one has collapsed the department of water and sanitation because of her irresponsible social activities‚” he said.
