Andile Lungisa to resign as ANC regional chair – report
Lungisa has apparently set his sights on contesting the position of Eastern Cape ANC secretary.

The ANC’s highest decision-making body, the national executive committee (NEC), has reportedly taken a decision that the party’s embattled regional chairperson in Nelson Mandela Bay, Andile Lungisa, should resign from his new position.
Business Day reported on Monday that the NEC, which met at the weekend, discussed Lungisa’s election to a lower party structure despite him not being eligible to stand for the post while serving on the ANC’s provincial executive committee (PEC) in the Eastern Cape.
According to the report, some NEC members, including former ANC Youth League treasurer Pule Mabe, defended Lungisa at the meeting but were defeated.
Lungisa was not aware of the NEC decision for him to step down. He told the paper he would “aim even higher”, should he be asked to quit his job.
He apparently wants to contest the position of ANC provincial secretary at the party’s conference in July. That position is currently occupied by Oscar Mabuyane.
Mabuyane is said to be also vying for the position of provincial chairperson, currently held by Eastern Cape Premier Phumulo Masualle.
