Granny sells ‘Sassa cash cow’ kids for R10k each
The transaction is an alleged ploy for the buying mother to cash in on child grants.

The father of a 14-year-old boy he last saw when he was an infant was shocked to discover that his child had allegedly been sold by his grandmother for R10 000, The New Age reports.
The child is one of two grandchildren the granny sold to another woman, each for R10 000. This transaction is apparently a means for the adopted mother to make money from social grants.
The adopted mother, however, refuses to return the kids and says she and the Roodepoort father will have to meet in court.
The father claimed he had been searching for his baby boy after having last seen him when he was two months old.
The child’s biological mother died when the baby was born prematurely, and when the boy was released, he was left in his maternal grandmother’s care in Limpopo.
But the father eventually lost contact with the family, and they never got back to him. Fourteen years later, he traced the family to visit his children. When he found them, he was told bluntly that the child and his brother had been sold to another woman.
A daughter of the grandmother told The New Age the granny received foster care grants that she passed on to the woman every month as part of their agreement.
Adele van der Linde, from Limpopo social development, said the matter would have to be referred to the children’s court. She said the 14-year-old was old to enough to decide if he wanted a relationship with his biological parent.
