Bonginkosi Madikizela elected acting Western Cape DA leader

The council meeting was attended by delegates elected in terms of the DA Western Cape constitution to represent DA structures from across the Western Cape


Western Cape human settlements MEC Bonginkosi Madikizela has been elected to serve as the Democratic Alliance’s acting provincial leader, the party announced on Saturday.

“Bonginkosi Madikizela was elected at a provincial council meeting which was held in Worcester today [Saturday],” DA Western Cape chairman Anton Bredell said.

The council meeting was attended by delegates elected in terms of the DA Western Cape constitution to represent DA structures from across the Western Cape, he said.

Madikizela would lead the DA in the Western Cape as the acting provincial leader for the remainder of the current term. Thereafter, the DA in the Western Cape would convene its provincial congress where it would elect the next provincial leader. The congress would take place on August 12 this year.

“On behalf of the DA in the Western Cape, I wish to congratulate Bonginkosi Madikizela on being elected to lead the party in the province. We look forward to working together in delivering on our record of progress and job creation in the Western Cape,” Bredell said.

Cape Town mayor Patricia de Lille recently resigned as Western Cape leader.
