Solidarity lodges complaint with SAHRC against Riaan Lucas

The Facebook user suggested he revelled in the news of any white man's death, specifically referencing Joost.

Trade union Solidarity has lodged a complaint against Riaan Lucas on Tuesday for posting a meme on Facebook that celebrated the death of Springbok Joost van der Westhuizen.

Solidarity lodged its complaint with the SA Human Rights Commission.

Lucas’ post came amid the nation still reeling at the sad news that it had lost one of its greatest sportsmen.

Facebook blocked Lucas’ page in response to complaints.

Solidarity said it lodged the complaint of crimen injuria because rules against racism and hate speech needed to apply regardless of race.

They referenced the 2016 case of Penny Sparrow, an estate agent, who was found guilty of crimen injuria charged in court after describing beachgoers as monkeys on Facebook.
