Learner dies after collapsing at gym

The Grade 11 learner suffered an aneurysm and collapsed.

Westville Boys’ High School in KwaZulu-Natal is mourning the loss of Grade 11 learner Bryn Magree, who died tragically on Thursday morning, Highway Mail reports.

Bryn suffered an aneurysm and collapsed at the Westville Virgin Active gym on Wednesday afternoon. In a statement released this morning by WBHS headmaster Trevor Hall, he said Bryn was declared brain dead, and surgery was not possible.

A photo of Bryn Magree posted on the Prayers for Bryn Facebook page.

After learning about Bryn’s condition on Wednesday, Hall kept the school updated with news of his condition.

He posted a message on the school’s website on Wednesday at 10.40pm, saying his condition was critical and that contrary to social media posts, the school had not appealed for funding, as no decision had been made by the neurosurgeon about surgery.

“We are deeply saddened to hear that Bryn passed away early this morning. Our condolences go out to his family – Janine, Brett and Kian – at this sad time. Further news about memorial services will be posted on the WBHS Communicator,” said Hall.

Messages of condolences for the Magree family have been flooding social media since the news broke.
