Robber killed in attempted ATM bombing

A detonator was found already fitted in one of the ATMs.


An attempted ATM bombing took place at one of the social grant paypoints at the Mall @ eMba in Embalenhle, Mpumalanga this morning, Ridge Times reports.

According to information, close to a hundred senior citizens went to the area to receive their grants.

It is alleged a group of robbers armed with rifles stormed the area where a security guard and a robber got involved in a struggle.

In the process, security guards and the robbers exchanged gunfire, during which one robber was shot dead.

A detonator was found already fitted in one of the ATMs.

It is further alleged that the other suspects escaped when they saw the guards were standing their ground and the police were already summoned.

They escaped the scene in two white Mercedes Benz cars and a silver grey Audi, registration numbers unknown.
