Elderly Limpopo man severely beaten during robbery

Police have launched a manhunt for the five suspects involved in the incident.


A search for five suspects linked to the attack of a 84-year-old man on a small holding outside of Bela Bela on Tuesday morning has been launched, said the police, Review Online reports.

According to a statement issued by Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo, preliminary investigations revealed that John Ramalho was alone at home when he was accosted by the suspects.

They forced him from the kitchen area into the house where they severely assaulted him and ransacked the house, he said.

He added that during the robbery, the suspects managed to open a built-in safe with an unknown object inside. A shotgun, a 303 rifle, a .22 rifle and a 765 pistol were also taken.

“Several household items were also loaded into a bakkie belonging to the victim before the suspects fled the scene in the said bakkie, a maroon Nissan Double cab with reg DNR 516 L.

The victim, who suffered several cuts and bruises, was taken to hospital for treatment.
