Woman kills herself with police husband’s gun

An inquest was being investigated after a woman shot and killed herself with her police husband’s gun just outside Centurion this week.

Police spokesperson Constable Kate Selepe said this happened at about 9pm on Sunday night at their Olievenhoutbosch home.

She said the 26-year-old, Sylvia Mokobane shot herself just above the eye.

The young woman was rushed to hospital by her family but succumbed to her injuries, Selepe said.

“Two cartridges, one projectile and one round, were found at the scene, meaning two gun shots were fired. She was hit by one bullet.”

She said it was not yet clear if her police husband was at the scene when the incident happened.

“Her police husband is a member of the Protection and Security Services. An inquest docket was opened.”
