Bogus cops rob motorists in Boksburg

The suspects searched the car and took cash before grabbing the victims’ cellphones and speeding off in the BMW.

Disguised as police officers, two armed men robbed a Brakpan man of a substantial amount of cash on the N17, in Freeway Park.

According to Boksburg police spokesperson Sergeant Cebisa Maseko, the victim was driving in a Hyundai i20 with his friend at about 10am last Friday when the ‘police officers’ in a white BMW used a flashing blue light to pull them over, Boksburg Advertiser reported.

Carrying firearms and dressed in police uniform, the impersonators approached the car and ordered the driver and his friend to get out as they wanted to search it.

The suspects searched the car and took cash before grabbing the victims’ cellphones and speeding off in the BMW.

The victim claims the cash amounted to R31 000.
