VIP blue light brigade involved in Tshwane crash

Police say no senior official was being transported at the time of the accident.

A blue light convoy has been involved in an accident on Madiba Drive in Pretoria on Thursday afternoon resulting in two people injured.
Jacaranda News reported that a biker travelling as part of the VIP brigade was injured as well as a pedestrian.

Blue light brigades are continuously involved in crashes in which members of the public are hurt or killed, Gauteng DA shadow MEC for safety and security Kate Lorimer said.

“On numerous occasions I have tried to highlight this issue in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature calling for those responsible to be held accountable for the damage and trauma they cause. But the ANC refuses to act.”

A member of the presidential protection unit was charged with culpable homicide in November last year after he knocked and killed a man in Hatfield.

The deceased, Solly Moutlana, was a friend of Johannesburg Mayor Herman Mashaba.
