Five injured in package bomb explosion in Durban

The package was opened while in the lounge at a private residence.


Five people suffered serious injuries when a package received at a residence in Stephen Dlamini Road exploded earlier today, Berea Mail reports.

According to Captain Poobalan Naidoo from Berea police, a package was received at the premises this afternoon and was opened by one person in the lounge.

“The package exploded, injuring five people present. Police are on scene,” he said.

Garrith Jamieson from Rescue Care Paramedics said the five seriously injured people were taken to hospital for further care.

“The events leading up to the explosion are unknown at present. The bomb squad is on scene, and police are investigating,” he said.
