Hijackers put mom and five-year-old son in boot

The distressed woman and child were discovered in the boot of her car four hours after they were kidnapped.

A woman and her son were forced into the boot of her car by hijackers, on Tuesday, east of Johannesburg, Springs Advertiser reports.

Springs police spokesperson Captain Johannes Ramphora says the woman (age unknown) and her five-year-old son were abducted outside their home on Bafana Bafana Street, Payneville, at 6pm.

The mother, her daughter, 16, and son had arrived home from KwaThema when they were surprised by three suspects.

Ramphora said the daughter got out of the car to open the gate and garage door.

“As she turned around she witnessed two suspects pulling her mother from the car and putting her in the backseat,” he said.

The third accomplice was already in the back of the car.

“Out of pure desperation to try and protect her mother and brother, the teenager threw a stone at the suspects,” said Ramphora.

However, the suspects allegedly threatened her with some form of weapon, which she could not identify, as it was too dark and then drove off with the mother and son.

The teenager could not tell the police which direction they went, as she was hiding from them at the time.

Ramphora says with the assistance of a vehicle tracking company and the Putfontein police, they found the abandoned vehicle. The distressed woman and child were discovered in the boot of her car in Putfontein, four hours after they were kidnapped.

“They were not hurt, but the three are traumatised,” said Ramphora.

Police are investigating a case of hijacking and kidnapping.
