Men found with ivory after tip-off

The pair have since appeared in the Germiston Magistrates’ Court on a charge of possession of ivory.

While on a recent routine patrol in Malvern East, members of the Benoni K9 Unit on the East Rand received a tip-off about two men with ivory in their possession, Germiston City News reports.

Officers travelled to the Stanhope Road address given by the informant, where they found two men, aged 31 and 36 years old.

“Officers searched the men and found a number of ivory pieces in their possession,” explained Sergeant Styles Maome, spokesperson for Primrose police.

The men were arrested, and the ivory was seized.
