Marks Maponyane in porn scandal – report

His ex-wife has accused him of physically abusing her throughout their 22-year marriage.

Pornography and physical abuse are at the centre of the breakdown of Marks and Sylvia Maponyane’s marriage.

Sunday World reports that in an affidavit submitted to the Tembisa magistrate court, Sylva said her ex-husband had collected images of naked women and this had led to their divorce.

About being abused, Sylvia said she had tolerated being violated by Marks for years.

“Marks got accustomed to assaulting me in the early stages of our marriage while still living with his parents at his parents’ home in Meadowlands, and when I asked for intervention from either his parents or my mother, I never received help,” said Sylvia.

She added that she was looking for justice to run its course as she was previously dissuaded from opening and following through on a police case by family and friends.

Sylvia also stated that when she went to open a case against her ex-husband, a prosecutor showed her images of a naked woman on his cellphone, in a bid to show her that this was apparently normal. She has since opened a case against him for secondary trauma as he also advised her to get an image consultant and do plastic surgery so that she could match her ex-husband’s stature.

NPA South Gauteng spokeswoman Phindi Louw-Mjondwane said a case had been opened against the prosecutor and an investigation was under way.
