2022 New Year’s resolution: celebrate everyday

Why celebrating is key to happiness in the new year.

In the last two years, celebrations have, in general, been few and far between due to the pandemic and lockdown restrictions. But who says you need to wait for a birthday, graduation or anniversary to celebrate? How about just celebrating what’s truly important such as good health or the ability to spend time with family?

It’s time to rethink our celebrations and show gratitude for the daily things we take for granted. FUTURELIFE® shares 5 reasons why we should be celebrating, with gratitude, everyday:

The journey: Life gets hectic and we often are not truly present for some of the most precious moments or miss them completely because we are too busy. Slow down, smell the roses and celebrate the small things and you’ll find you are more likely to appreciate the journey.

Positive mindset: Oprah says (and she is always right), the more you celebrate life, the more there is in life to celebrate. By actively choosing to celebrate each day, you help cultivate a positive mindset which in turn is said to reduce stress and even improve health.

Inspire others: Publicly celebrating your wins – big and small – will inspire and give the people around you the opportunity to reflect and celebrate their own wins as well.

You will be happier: Celebrating is said to increase the levels of oxytocin and endorphins (your body’s happy hormones), so why not give your body a natural high everyday!

Achieve your goals better and faster: By celebrating smaller milestones, you remind yourself that you are capable and able. This in turn increases your confidence and confidence leads to success.

How can you deliberately celebrate every day?

  1. End the day by gathering the family for dinner at the table and use it as an opportunity to celebrate each other daily.
  2. Write personal celebration notes to yourself and others (a lunchbox note is always a winner!).
  3. Give a social media shout-out.
  4. Spoil yourself and others with a small token of celebration.
