Are you ready to rock this weekend, Zululand?

Ten reasons to attend the Grantleigh Music Festival this Saturday

YOU have to admit, it’s a strange name for a band, and one that often gets the members questioned.

The story behind it – like the band – is about as South African as you can get.

When the three members of Angus- Richard, Clinton and Duran – accepted their first paying gig, they were asked to provide a band name.

Flummoxed, Richard messaged Duran and Clinton and asked for suggestions, to which Duran replied ‘Angus’.

This was a term they were using at the time when they did not know the answer to something, which comes from the isiZulu word ‘Angazi’.

And so, Angus it was.

The due were all born and raised in KZN, to musical families.

During their teenage years they were influenced by the early 90″s rock music of the time, and formed a trio in the early 2000’s, predominantly doing covers of pop rock hits at casual get-togethers in front of family and friends.

It grew from there, and they were soon being asked to play at paying events.

Today, the Band Angus has played in Mozambique, Swaziland, Gauteng and the Transkei, building up a loyal following of those who love their blend of unique vocals and riffs mish-mashed together with classic favorites from the 60’s to today’s chart-topping hits.

They have grown musically together, and also have a fine set of original songs – some of which will be played at their next gig – the Grantleigh Music Festival.

It’s set to take place this coming Saturday (4 August) and will see performances by Angus, Dave Starke, and Gangs of Ballet.

There will be a market and interim performances by the Grantleigh Marimba Band.

Gates open at midday, and food will be on sale.
