He was tragically declared dead at the scene.

The Sibiya family this afternoon released the following statement in the wake of his tragic death

‘It is with a deep sense of sadness that we confirm the passing of SthembisoSibiya who was a father, a husband, a brother, and most of all a dedicated leader who served his party – the African National Congress – with distinction.

Sthembiso was an uMkhonto Wesizwe operative having received extensive training at the age of 18 in Tanzania.

He was dedicated, energetic and spent years in exile under the banner of the African National Congress.

Upon his return, he continued with his activism and was at the forefront of all efforts aimed at ensuring the liberation of the people of this country.

This loss is felt very deeply in particular by the youth leaders and young people in general, who looked up to him as a disciplined cadre of the movement.

He outstandingly served the ANCYL for many years, after having being elected as the first ANCYL Treasurer in Northern Natal (now the Musa Dladla Region).

He also served the ANCYL as an Organizer – a task that he performed diligently.

At the time of his death, Sthembiso was the Provincial Organizer of the ANC in KwaZulu Natal.

The recent successful conclusion of the elective conference in eMalahleni Region has been attributed partly to him, as he had been deployed by the ANC to be part of the cadres whose main task was to rebuild the organisation.

He was also the chairperson of the ANC in oBanjeni Branch, Umlalazi.
(We, the family) appreciate the messages of condolence from the ANC leadership, and the general members.

Such messages are comforting to the family, his three children and his wife, Silindile MaDube Sibiya.
Funeral arrangements will be forthcoming.’
