Ngwelezane-born actor Mthandeni Mbambo takes centre stage in a home-brewed theatre production

AN exciting story line will come alive in the home brewed theatre production The Journey – Umbambo at the Empangeni Civic Centre on Friday, 8 March.

Homegrown actor Mthandeni Mbambo will not only take Zululanders on a journey about his personal and professional life, but will also expose some interesting encounters he has faced as an artist.

The production is written and directed by Mbambo himself under Mthaphoqa Productions, that has entered into a joint venture with the King Cetshwayo Theatrical Society and other structures.

Zululanders can expect Mbambo to deliver a top notch narrative intertwined with music and dance.

‘This is a story of a young Zululand boy and his journey in life. It will also feature some of my struggles and experiences as an artist and some colourful personalities I have met over the years,’ said Mbambo.

He is a well-known actor, dancer, musician and theatre director who started out from humble beginnings in the Ngwelezana township in Empangeni.

His overflowing bucket of accomplishments include working on many TV and theatre productions such as the musical Afrika My Home, where he played alongside Mondli Makhoba of Uzalo and Abdul Khoza of the Mzansi Magic telenovela, The Road.

He has also been part of Mbongeni Ngema’s Sarafina and two Zululand productions, Death of the Emperor Shaka and The Devil’s Autograph.

He has also made an appearance on the telenovela, Rockville, and is part of the call in cast of the SABC 1 soapie Uzalo.
