Big stars to headline weekend expo

There will be many activities and performers at the Disability Awareness Expo

LOCALLY brewed stars, Jonty Stander and DJ Nivaadh Singh, are set to headline the Disability Awareness Expo at Alkantstrand this weekend.

Already underway, the expo started Wednesday and will run until Sunday.

The aim of the expo is to highlight issues faced by people with disabilities, whether from an employment, education or business perspective.

‘This event would like to showcase what people with disabilities can do and become within society,’ said organisers Paulo dos Santos and Jayson Mitchell, who both live with physical disabilities.

Thought to be the first of its kind in South Africa, the event has been organised for disabled people, by disabled people.

Born and bred in Empangeni, Stander is taking Jo’burg by storm with his hip hop dancing and choreography.

He will be performing several times throughout the day on Sunday, and will be joined on stage by other well known artists including DJ Nivaadh Singh and Kris Karma.

After becoming a drummer and keyboard player in 2006, DJ Nivaadh Singh soon started his own music label and launched his pro DJ career.

He has since become the first Zululand DJ to be nominated for the prestigious Zululand Chamber of Commerce award for service excellence.

He is set to perform on Saturday from 10am to 2pm.

Other attractions throughout the four-day expo include car spinners, MC Keith Eaton, numerous food stalls, a classic car competition, jumping castles for the kids, Equidae therapeutic horse riding, and much more.

Entrance for children under 10 is free, kids over ten pay just R20, adults pay R50, while pensioners and people with disabilities get in free.
