Useful tips for alcohol in and around the house

Put alcohol to the test

BELIEVE it or not, but alcohol actually has some serious practical uses in and around one’s home.

And no guys, we’re not referring to the mood enhancing qualities of alcohol while watching rugby or cricket on the telly.

Alcohol is often added to cosmetic products and used as a disinfectant and adhesive substances.

Listed below are proven ways how alcohol can assist with daily problems.

Bed bugs
One can destroy bed bugs with the help of rubbing alcohol. Just spray it over the mattress and pillows several times and the bed will be free of these pests.

Skin cleanser
Numerous acne ointments and creams involve benzyl peroxide. Yet, rubbing alcohol has potent anti-inflammatory effects which soothe the affected skin, disinfect pimples and prevent acne appearance. Just apply on the affected skin area.

Cold sores treatment
Apply 70 percent isopropyl alcohol on the affected area and the cold sores will vanish soon.

Deodorant replacement
Rub some alcohol on one’s armpits to get rid of the bad odour. Just note that long exposure to alcohol can lead to skin irritations.

Removal of ingrown hairs
Apply some rubbing alcohol on the armpits and bikini area after shaving to remove ingrown hairs, and treat irritations.

Cool pack
Mix water and alcohol in a 2:1 ratio, and store it in a plastic bag in the fridge for an hour. Then, use it as an ice pack, or to cool your meals when outdoors.

Remove nail polish
Common nail polish removers are high in harsh chemicals which damage the nails. Use rubbing alcohol to replace chemical acetone.

Clean your ears
Cotton buds are commonly used for ear cleaning, but in fact, they push the earwax deeper into the ear canal. Rather mix rubbing alcohol with white vinegar and soak a cotton bud in the solution.

Then just drop it into your ears and the earwax will come out on its own.

Destroy lice
Pour rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle and add several drops of lavender oil. Then spray the solution onto the scalp and comb the hair to eliminate the dead lice.

DIY hand sanitiser
It can be an effective homemade hand sanitiser. Mix ½ tablespoon of isopropyl alcohol, several drops of tea tree oil and four ounces of Aloe Vera gel to prepare the solution.
