Mtunzini’s Kayla guns for Miss SA title

Local beauty Kalyla Malherbe selected as Miss SA 2017 finalist

IT’S every girl’s dream to wear the coveted Miss SA crown, and for Mtunzini beauty Kayla Malherbe (21), this could become a reality in March.

The local beauty has been selected among twelve finalists gunning for the Miss SA 2017.

The pageant will be be held at the Sun City Superbowl on Sunday, 26 March.

She was placed in the finals by public vote after voting lines were opened last year.

She received the highest votes in KZN together with Durban’s Priyeshka Lutchman, and is the only finalist from the greater Zululand area to make it to the top 12.

Kayla is a professional model who has appeared in numerous glossy magazine spreads – but she is now one step closer to living her dream of carrying the coveted Miss South Africa title.

She is a former Mtunzini Primary School and Richards Bay Primary School pupil, but now works as a full-time professional model contracted to Fusion Models in Cape Town.

She says she wants to be Miss SA because she feels she could ‘help young women understand that it’s not what you have on the outside, but what’s inside’.

‘Young people today are so consumed with social media and always in competition with one another that they don’t realise what is actually going on around them. I also want to help people with addictions and want to get children off the streets and help give them a better life,’ she said.

The second round of public voting was opened at midnight on Thursday.

The public’s SMS votes will have a 25 percent weighting of the overall voting towards the winner, with 75 percent resting with the official judges.

Voting can be done via SMS and the public can SMS Kayla’s unique number 05 to 45791.

Each SMS will cost R1.50.
