Embracing African beauty

New association to boost women's confidence lauched

‘AFRICAN women are beautiful, and they look stunning in all shapes and sizes.’

That’s the opinion of Lindiwe Dube, speaking at a recent launch of a new modelling association in KwaDlangezwa.

Ubuhle be-Africa Models aim to empower African females to be proud of their heritage, appearance and accept their shapes and sizes.

‘We watch too much television and read magazines which portray only slim women as beautiful.

Our children grow up thinking they have to lose weight or look a certain way to be acceptable. This platform seeks to ensure that all women accept themselves and be proud of how they look. No one needs to change for anyone,’ she said.

Dube first launched this community initiative in her hometown and hopes to extend it to other corners of the region.

‘The plan is to make sure African people get an opportunity to shine and rock the runway without any fears. It is a place where they can boost their confidence and have pride in themselves and heir bodies,’ she said.
