Bikers show their ‘metal’ for DICE

'The biggest thank you must go to the bikers, without whom none of this would be possible.'

CLOSE to 350 bikers bearing gifts roared onto the Zululand Observer property in Empangeni on Sunday morning for the seventh annual Suzuki Toy Run.

Owners of Suzuki Richards Bay Jaco and Belinda Viviers were elated at the turnout of more than 200 bikes, by far the best of the event since its inception in 2009.

‘The response has been amazing and it’s great to see that all the bikers from the different clubs came together again,’ Viviers said.

‘We can’t say thank you enough to Mpact Recycling as well as South 32 and of course, Suzuki Richards Bay,’ he said.

‘The biggest thank you must go to the bikers, without whom none of this would be possible.’

The Toy Run is in aid of the Zululand Observer’s charity arm Do I Care Enough? (DICE), a campaign that looks after the under-privileged of Zululand.

‘The true spirit of giving put paid to pessimism of the doom prophets and I was ‘revved up’ to once again experience the generosity of our biker friends,’ said Regina Anthony, Founder of DICE.

‘The roars of the motorbikes as they approached was to me like an angels’ chorus, bringing unbridled joy to boys and girls who they may never meet, but whose hearts will be filled with happiness when they receive the gifts.

‘For the majority of these children, these will be the only presents they receive this Christmas and from the bottom of our hearts we say thank you,’ she said.

With a twinkle in her eye, she promised to get herself a motorbike to join them on the road.
