Queens of gospel come to town

Get ready to worship with gospel queens in Empangeni next month

GOSPEL queens will bless Zululand next month during the High Praise Session at Imbizo Hall in Empangeni on Sunday, 11 December.

The super line-up will include the queen of gospel Rebecca Malope, Ntokozo Mbambo of Joyous Celebration fame, Thina Zungu and our own Thobekile Mkhwanazi.

Spearheaded by Tshiamo Entertainment, the event is set to be the one of the most special this year, especially with Malope visiting Zululand for the first time. She is a multi-award winning South African gospel singer.

She is known as the African queen of gospel music with a career spanning 30 years.

She has sold at least four million albums in South Africa, making her one of the biggest SA selling artist of all times.

Since the beginning of her career she has released more than 36 albums, with most of them achieving multi-platinum status.

Her musical journey started in 1984 when at the age of 18 she and her sister left their township home in Kanyamazane and hiked to claim fame in Johannesburg.

In 1985 Malope entered the Shell Road to Fame programme together with her band, but was eliminated in the first round.

In 1987 she entered the competition again as solo artist and won the Female Vocalist category with her song Shine.

She has worked with the likes of Brenda Fassie, Yvonne Chaka Chaka and Mercy Phakela.

Since 2004 she has been the host of the TV show It’s Gospel Time on SABC 2.

In 2013 she was one of the judges in Clash of Choirs South Africa.
