Zululand’s got talent!

My sincere thanks to the generous sponsors and hostesses who have all received our grateful letters of thanks

That gorgeous hunk Simon Cowell to my mind is the star lead in the popular TV shows `America has got talent` and `England has got talent.`

Well I have news for him – ZULULAND HAS GOT TALENT!

What a wonderful morning it was when 300 ladies shed their corporate, secretarial, motherhood or whatever images they are known for and raised more than R32 000 in style, making happy contact with well over 300 old friends or new friends at the Tea on the Terrace event at the Umfolozi Casino Resort last Saturday.

Judging by the volume of chatter and laughter, they rediscovered the age old pleasure of face-to-face contact instead of isolated Whatsapps which is regrettably the norm today.

The decor for various chosen themes for the tables made a stunning view with unsurpassed imagination and talent on display.

Ammé and Ulrika Upton’s rendering of Pie Jesu in their crystal clear soprano voices was an emotional opening to the fund-raising event which will benefit cancer sufferers by providing economical accommodation during treatment.

Both learners at Empangeni High School (EHS), these talented teenagers could take the stage as winners in any international event.

Talented Grade 9 learner, also at EHS, Lethan van Niekerk played and sang with passion, identifying him as the overall winner of this year’s Zululand Eisteddford in the individual voice section.

Local artists Dalene Bruins-Lich and Cate Kirkland added a happy atmosphere and got the feet a-tapping.
Hostess Christina Reddy stole the show with her Moulin Rouge theme, especially the saucy centre piece, and was the worthy winner.

It was so gratifying to welcome the mayor of King Cetshwayo District Municipality Nonhle Mkhulise and to hear her words of encouragement and plans for future participation of shared events benefitting those who need it most.

The presence of her deputy mayor Alice Mthembu and the mayoress of Umhlathuze Municipality Thandeka Mhlongo added lustre to an august occasion.

My sincere thanks to the generous sponsors and hostesses who have all received our grateful letters of thanks.

Also to my four-man committee members whose determination to fill the hall never wavered despite tantrums and special camaraderie second to none.

The staff of the Zululand Observer were there in full support of this delightful event.

There has never been a time when the tried and tested philosophies of the past were more urgently needed than now to give perspective and understanding.

To give people something to cling to, something on which to build the strong, firm structure of our own lives thus influencing those around us.

Your personal outreach was living proof that by your generosity and compassion in participating you were putting out your hand to your neighbour in love, and for this I thank you.
