EHS marching band best in the land

There was a definite energy pumping through the veins of every student

THERE was a magic buzz in the air at Empangeni High School on Saturday where pupils from every corner of South Africa gathered to participate in the South African marching and concert band competition.

Credit must be given to Empangeni High for doing such a wonderful job in hosting the event.

Although there were fewer marching bands competing this year, the competition gave local schools the chance to strut their stuff to crowds bigger than that of previous years, even though the competition was then held in larger cities.

It brought the community together and with the school hall packed during the day and the pavilion overflowing with supporters during the evening, everyone had a chance to enjoy the tasteful music every school had to offer.

But at the end of the day the winning performance of Hoërskool Waterkloof gave everyone goosebumps.

During the performance of the Empangeni High School marching band, the heavens poured down, but as all showmen say, ‘the show must go on,’ – and so it did, having them claim the title once more.

There was a definite energy pumping through the veins of every student, eager to hear the outcome of their performance during the day.

This year the Empangeni High School Concert Band made a great comeback from last year, improving their score with more than 15% and placing second, and Grantleigh Schools did the Marimba Band category justice with their brilliant programme, claiming the title.
